Executive Committee

The Executive Committee consists of Secretary, Junior Treasurer, Sponsorship Officer, Publicity Officer, etc. Since our introduction of the novel committee structure following our Committee Recruitment 2008, we don't currently have a post of President. Because most of what we do is project based, there's a project leader for each project. CUEWB strongly encourages any member of the Executive Committee to take the Project Leader role in any project he/she is interested in and to propose his/her own ideas and projects over time. In this way, every member of the Executive Committee will have the opportunity to lead CUEWB and rotate in different posts.

The Executive Committee of CUEWB consists of the following members:

Ms. Yuting Shao (Junior Treasurer and Publicity Officer)

Reading for a BA in Economics
Project Leader of Publicity Campaign 2009 (PC09)

Studying Economics at Cambridge, Yuting discovers insights into the developing countries and develops new perspectives on how the world works. Education, which is pivotal to human capital accumulation and thus economic development, draws particular interest to her. She considers CUEWB a rigorous platform to realise education sharing and study exchange between different institutions. Yuting believes that CUEWB would allow her to deepen her self-understanding, and would contribute to a greater understanding of her own society, and her values. Previous experience in treasury and event organisation makes Yuting confident to work with CUEWB. She designs brochures and undertakes fabulous projects for CUEWB, which will make a difference for the Cambridge community and beyond.

Ms. Yibing Quek (Secretary)

Reading for a BA in Natural Sciences
Project Leader of International Forum, Xiamen (IFX)

Studying Natural Sciences at Cambridge as a first year student has opened up many windows for Yibing. She gained a new perspective of how enlightening a world-class education system can be. Yibing always felt privileged of being on the receiving end of so many valuable opportunities to learn more about the world and herself. In addition, Yibing participated in various exchange and immersion programmes with Chinese and Japanese students. Also, having the experience of teaching in a high school back in Singapore taught her how meaningful the experience of educating others can be. Joining the CUEWB committee will allow Yibing to open up many windows for other aspiring young individuals in the world.

Mr. Liang Lin (Publicity Officer)

Reading for a PhD in Electrical Engineering
Project Leader of Cambridge Entrepreneurship and Leadership Seminars (CELS09-1, CELS09-2, and CELS10-1)

Being a PhD student at Cambridge, Liang has the CUEWB belief of improving the world by making the best education accessible to as many people as possible throughout the globe. In the first step, he would like to bring the outstanding students at top universities in China to learn entrepreneurship and leadership at Cambridge. By doing this, he can help enthusiastic young people to master the key skills, motivation, communication, organisation and determination, to their success. Ultimately, he will work together with other team members to build up a brand series of courses based on the resources of Cambridge University, which will be available for all people, especially those from developing countries.

Mr. Max Qin (Publicity Officer)

Reading for a BA in Economics

As a first year economist at Cambridge, Max is keen to study development economics. His search to find ways to combine the interests of business groups and education development has led to his joining CUEWB. The same passion for development will bring him to work in the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh this coming summer. Max is also the Vice-President of Cambridge's 80-year-old economics society, Secretary-General of a Model UN debating conference in Canada, and has interned in WTO's regional headquarters in China. His involvement in a wide range of societies and experience in various fields make him suitable as the Publicity Officer. In his spare time, Max enjoys practicing Jiu-jitsu (pure combat judo), debating politics and playing the piano.

Ms. Junyang Yu (Sponsorship Officer)

Reading for a BA in Mathematics
Project Leader of International Forum, Cambridge (IFC)

As one of the Chinese students studying Mathematics at Cambridge, Junyang is privileged to benefit from the teaching resources and the opportunity to have supervisions with the leading academics. There may be no border in the numerical world, but when it comes to the real one, we will find ‘the great wall’. The experience of studying abroad since A-level has given her a real sense of the existence of educational barriers between countries and it is not long before getting to know CUEWB and being completely motivated. Joining this society is a good opportunity for Junyang to help the communication between different subjects, between academics and industries and she is more than ready to devote herself to working on this matter.

Mr. Jialiang Chen (Sponsorship Officer)

Reading for a BA in Engineering

Like most of the Chinese students here in Cambridge, Jialiang had his primary and secondary school education in mainland China. At the age of 15, he secured a scholarship to study in Singapore where he completed his O-level and A-level exams that helped him earn the ticket to studying engineering at this prestigious UK university. By joining CUEWB, he hopes to help develop a more conducive platform in Cambridge to promote exchange of knowledge and experience with universities and societies worldwide. Also, he hopes to see that, CUEWB will be able to reach out to the other parts of the world where provision of education is deeply handicapped and make a change to the life of the less privileged.

Ms. Cathy Xu (Publicity Officer)

Reading for a BA in Economics
Project Leader of Survive, Emerge, PROSPER (SEP)

Having been in the UK for nearly 4 years since the age of 17 and now a second-year Economist at Cambridge, Cathy has always appreciated her opportunity to study what she enjoys at a world-class institution after having benefitted from the vastly different yet both very challenging and life-enhancing education in China and in the UK. It is her own experience and the stories of her friends who study in China and the US that raised her awareness of the mutual benefits that could potentially come from opening up educational opportunities and exchanges of ideas across geographical and cultural barriers. Upon joining CUEWB, she hopes to see more of such opportunities explored and utilised, and through them create what could be a life-changing experience for individuals.
