8% - that’s the unemployment rate, which economists around the world are beginning to predict for the current recession! Have you ever wondered how the economy should move on from the current financial crisis? Are you worried about how the financial crisis might affect your career prospects on graduation?

Cambridge University Education Without Borders (CUEWB) is organising a talk and panel discussion addressing this global issue. Two invited speakers from both academics and industry will be speaking at the event. Prof. M. Hashem Pesaran FBA, Professor of Economics and Director of the Centre for International Macroeconomics and Finance, will be speaking at the event. Mr. Rupert Taylor, Vice President, European Equity Sales, Nomura, a leading Japanese bank, will also be on the panel to provide fresh insights on this issue. There will be a networking session for the students, speakers, and representatives from Nomura after the event.

Flow of the Talk

  1. The CUEWB team gives a short introduction of the background of Prof. M. Hashem Pesaran FBA. Prof. Pesaran then gives a talk on his view of how economics as a whole should move on from the financial crisis and survive the recession. (30 min.)
  2. The CUEWB team gives a short introduction of the background of Mr. Rupert Taylor. Mr. Taylor then gives a talk on his view of how the banking sector, especially Nomura, should move on from the financial crisis. (30 min.)
  3. The two speakers host a mini panel discussion. Members of the audience ask the speakers questions and obtain answers from both the academic and business perspectives. (30 min.)
  4. A relaxing drinks session follows to allow more interaction among the speakers, audience, and representatives from Nomura. (30 min.)

Free drinks and snacks will be provided. All are welcome!
